While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 10:44-45.
One of the things I have learnt over the past 26 years of following the Lord is never to assume to completely know or predict the way He works. God remains a principle respecter but a protocol breaker. When I see people trying to rigidly explain God and His workings based on the revelation they have of Him, I just laugh and pass. I also laugh and pass when I see people puffed up by a certain perspective of God or the scripture they have insight to.
The Jews could not fathom how a people that were not first baptized, do restitution or wait in fasting and prayer could just receive the Holy Ghost as them. The process looks too easy and sudden to them.
Now listen:
Anytime you begin to have a sense of superiority on account of any spiritual endowment, JUST WATCH IT.
Anytime you have a new vision and it appears to you as though everyone not aligning with your vision or revelation is either wrong or not spiritual enough, JUST WATCH IT!
Anytime you have a burning revelation that makes it impossible for you to heed counsel from anyone, JUST WATCH IT!
Anytime someone is set to do something outside an established pattern and you are all out to resist him without first praying about it, JUST WATCH IT!
Whatever stirs within you a sense of perfection over your denomination, pastor or doctrine over others, JUST WATCH IT!
JUST WATCH IT, anytime you feel threatened by the speedy growth of your protege or mentee.
Oh yes! I think you should JUST WATCH IT, when it appears as though someone is getting what you got without paying the price you paid to get it.
Hmmm! I also want you to JUST WATCH IT when someone less qualified seems to be getting a result you have been desiring to get.
Why do you need to watch it?
1. That feeling, if not well managed can be hijacked by the devil and use it as a tool to fight the purpose of God through you.
2. That feeling is a junction between what happens to you as far as your journey in the things of God is concerned.
3. That feeling can lead to a diversion of your core assignment and navigate your path towards bitterness, strife, jealousy or envy.
COUNSEL:
1. Always remember that God will remain as dynamic as possible in His operations and manifestations through people on the earth.
2. Be open to the leadings, direction and dynamism of the Spirit as you pursue your given task.
3. Respect other people’s views, relate with them in love without compromising your core principles, and never engage in unnecessary doctrinal arguments with anyone.
4. Let Love rather than correctness be the basis for interaction, discuss or relationship with others.
5. Winning arguments is not a calling for anyone but winning of souls, don’t make it yours!
