And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out. And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth, That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice: And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.
And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home. And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me: And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out. And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled. And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison. But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. Gen 39:12-20.
Potiphar’s wife had a tangible evidence and sympathetic witnesses to back her untrue story against Joseph. The other servants saw it as an opportunity to get Joseph out of their way seeing he being a foreign slave had dominated Potiphar’s household. I can imagine the gusto with which they buttressed Potiphar’s wife story thinking it will lead to Joseph’s execution but they were all unaware of the mystery of Divine involvement in a person’s life. There are times you maybe faced with a well orchestrated conspiracy by seeming friends, professional colleagues, family or subtle enemies. The evidence and witnesses against you may appear very true to the undiscerning.
Times where the truth you know seems not to make sense to anyone. Times where you wished you never had anything to do with some people and places. Times where you have thought to have escaped certain things and phase of life only to watch what you have labored to build crumble before your very before. Oh yes, times where you thought your being careful not to offend people will make them like you. I mean those times where the integrity you have spent years to build is being challenged and threatened to its very foundation by no fault of yours and you appear helpless about it. The good news is, you are not alone, I have been there and so was several others.
What do you do when only God becomes your witness?
Stay tuned for the concluding part next week.
I see God stepping into your matter to give you testimonies in Jesus name!
